Nethili Fish Fry | Anchovy Fish Fry | Nethili 65 | Nethili Fry Using Besan

Nethili Fish Fry is a popular South Indian food recipe!! It is crispy and delicious. It can be had as a starter and also a snack. One variation that can be done here is that the fish fry can be prepared without using flour mix. The fish gets easily cooked and it tastes brilliant. Who wouldn't love a crispy fish fry? Also fishes are good source of omega 3 fatty acid, proteins and low in fat and cholesterol. Lets see the preparation!! 


  1. Nethili fish/Anchovies - 250 grams
  2. Gram flour/Besan flour - 5 spoons
  3. Rice flour - 2 spoons
  4. Corn flour - 1 spoon
  5. Lemon juice - 1 spoon
  6. Ginger-Garlic paste - 1 spoon
  7. Red chilli powder - 1.5 spoons 
  8. Cumin powder - 3/4 spoon
  9. Salt -As per taste 
  10. Oil - For deep frying 


  • Wash fishes well in water, scale and remove the head part and intestinal parts. Wash well again, set aside. (If you already get the fish scaled and cleaned then just wash it)
  • Make a thick batter with the following ingredients; The consistency of batter should be like dosa batter, not too watery, not too thick.
      • Gram flour/Besan flour + Rice flour   +  Corn flour  +  Lemon juice  +  Ginger-Garlic paste  +  Red chilli powder  +  Cumin powder  +  Salt  + Water.
  • Marinate the fish in the batter for atleast 15 minutes.
  • Deep fry and serve!!
TIP 1: Marinate fish for 15-30 minutes so that the fish absorbs the masala well!!!

TIP 2: You can do the same recipe with other fishes also!! But be sure to remove the flesh separately from the bones and then do the preparation. Anchovy fish bones are not too hard so you can use anchovies as it is. 

TIP 3: Adding some chaat masala gives a nice flavor to these fries. 

Crispy, Delicious Nethili fish fry/Spicy Anchovy Fry is now ready!!!
