Turmeric Rice Recipe | Yellow Rice Recipe | Easy Pulao Recipes

Here's a mildly spiced pulao recipe with turmeric as the main flavoring ingredient. The color and flavors are very subtle and makes it such a comforting dish to all age groups. It can be simply served with papads or along with any spicy curries.  It makes a great lunch box recipe too. When you are in a hurry this recipe will be your savior.

Serves one person
Total Preparation Time - 20 minutes
  1. Basmati rice - 1/2 cup
  2. Turmeric power - 1/4 teaspoon
  3. Ginger - one small 1/4 inch piece
  4. Cumin seeds - 1/4 teaspoon
  5. Peppercorns - 1/2 teaspoon
  6. Salt - As per taste
  7. Ghee - 1.5 tablespoons

  • Wash rice twice in water and soak in fresh water for about 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Place a pan on flame and pour ghee into the pan. After it heats up add cumin seeds, pepper corn, crushed ginger piece, turmeric powder, salt and saute for a few seconds. Do not let the spices burn.
  • Add basmati rice and gently stir.
  • Then pour 1.5 cups of water and mix gently.
  • Cover with a lid and cook on a low flame for 5 to 7 minutes or until the rice gets cooked and water content completely reduces. Then remove from flame and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with some spicy curries or simply with papads.

TIP 1 : Instead of peppercorns you can use 1/4 tsp of chopped green chillies also. It will give a different flavor.

TIP 2: You can prepare the same with normal rice too, but basmati rice gives a nice flavor.

And those tips are really handy too... I'd prefer green chillies over peppercorns :)
