Chilli bread is my all time favorite snack, this can be made in a few minutes and makes a perfect tea-time accompaniment. A hot cup of chai/coffee and a bowl of this chilli bread will make such a pleasant combo. With just a few bread slices and some easily available ingredients from your kitchen pantry, and in no time you can prepare this tasty chilli bread. I have made it a bit spicy to satisfy my taste buds, you can alter the spice levels according to your wish. Also here, I have toasted the bread slices and then used them up, you can choose to either deep fry or toast the bread, but I prefer toasting the bread as it involves lesser oil and so comparatively less in calories. Lets now see how to make this scrumptious & easy to make snack.
As this is her favorite I made this for her today to see her enjoy. Its a great thing to see my mom picking another spoon to munch on, it means that she is loving the dish and she did it today too. Time flies and changes things very much, and its obviously visible that as we grow up our Mom become our daughter. I love her to the core and I thanks her for all that she has been to me, word cannot just explain the thankful feeling I have!! She has been the fantastic lady of my life, a super woman!! There could be no relationship equaling a mom, her place can never be stolen. Love you ma <3 and Thanks Minnie for this opportunity!! I will be trying your garam chai soon.
INGREDIENTS
Serves 1 person
Total Preparation Time - 7 minutes
- Bread - 3 slices
- Big onion - 1 (Sliced)
- Tomato - 1 (Sliced)
- Green chillies - 2 (Chopped finely)
- Chopped Ginger - 1/4 spoon
- Garlic - 1 (chopped)
- Ginger-Garlic paste - 1/4 spoon
- Red chilli powder - 1/2 spoon
- Tomato sauce - 1 spoon
- Red chilli sauce - 1/2 spoon
- Sugar - 1/2 spoon
- Salt - As per taste
- Oil - 2 spoons
PREPARATION METHOD
- Place a non-stick pan or dosa pan on flame and place the bread slices on it. Toast on low flame until it becomes brownish and crisp. Flip the bread and toast the other side also until brownish and crisp.
- Then chop into pieces (i used a scissors to do this, as it gives perfect squares) and set aside.
- Place a wok or kadai on flame, add oil, after it heats up saute chooped garlic, ginger and green chillies on low flame for a minute. Then add sliced onions and saute well until it turns translucent.
- Add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell leaves.
- Now add sliced tomatoes and saute until the tomatoes gets cooked. Add a pinch of salt optionally to fasten cooking.
- Now add red chilli powder, salt and saute until raw smell leaves.
- Now add tomato sauce, red chilli sauce and sugar stir well and add the toasted bread cubes into it.
- Stir gently so that the masala mixes up well with the bread, and at the same time take care not to stir vigorously as it will tear the bread pieces. (The bread pieces will soften up after cooking so do not keep sauteing too much)
- Cook for a minute on medium flame as you saute. After the bread pieces gets mixed up well with the masala, add chopped coriander leaves stir remove from flame and serve!!
TIP 1: You can also deep fry the bread pieces and use it. It will give a crispier texture. Also take care to chop the bread pieces before frying them.
TIP 2: You can add some diced capsicum for better flavors.
TIP 3: Reduce the spice levels according to your wish. Drizzle some lemon juice if you'd love a tangy flavor.
