Chilli Bread | Spicy Bread Stir Fry | Leftover Bread Recipes

Chilli bread is my all time favorite snack, this can be made in a few minutes and makes a perfect tea-time accompaniment. A hot cup of chai/coffee and a bowl of this chilli bread will make such a pleasant combo. With just a few bread slices and some easily available ingredients from your kitchen pantry, and in no time you can prepare this tasty chilli bread. I have made it a bit spicy to satisfy my taste buds, you can alter the spice levels according to your wish. Also here, I have toasted the bread slices and then used them up, you can choose to either deep fry or toast the bread, but I prefer toasting the bread as it involves lesser oil and so comparatively less in calories. Lets now see how to make this scrumptious & easy to make snack.

Am gonna send this recipe to Minnie's Anniversary event. This is my mom's most favorite recipe, I felt that this is the best one to share with her event as she has themed it with mother's day. I take this event as a chance to thank my mom for all that she has been. She has helped me much in all my ventures, be it a successful one or a failure. She has been such a support all through my blogging journey and has never failed to encourage me, which is the best I think. Ideas about cooking, about what recipe to be posted, about how my photography has turned out and lots more come from her. So I basically love treating her with her favorites and it is such a pleasure to watch her enjoying my creations. It is always a pleasure to watch someone enjoying your cooking and when it is your mom there is boundless joy right?. My mom is basically a picky eater, she doesn't like to munch much and is basically fussy; she loves rice, but it is hard to find her enjoy any other dish just like  the way she enjoys rice. I've tried to fool her or flatter her into eating all my creations to get her criticisms, one reason is because I love doing something for her and another selfish reason is that, she judges my recipes perfectly,  she has been the taste tester for most of the recipes I have posted here; only after her acceptance or infact approval (this is almost like a grade or certification for me) of the taste  it comes up as a post on my space. As a mom she keeps appreciating my effort and never fails to suggest or guide or even criticize my work 'honestly'. I have tried to impress my mom in many ways and she is still picky in her choices, so I rather ask her suggestions before preparing her anything or I make her favorites, some of her favorites are chilli chicken, rice, biryani, coconut rice and fried rice, her favorite list has always been too short. Gladly she loves another of my preparation and it is this 'Chilli Bread' recipe.

As this is her favorite I made this for her today to see her enjoy. Its a great thing to see my mom picking another spoon to munch on, it means that she is loving the dish and she did it today too. Time flies and changes things very much, and its obviously visible that as we grow up our Mom become our daughter. I love her to the core and I thanks her for all that she has been to me, word cannot just explain the thankful feeling I have!! She has been the fantastic lady of my life, a super woman!! There could be no relationship equaling a mom, her place can never be stolen. Love you ma <3 and Thanks Minnie for this opportunity!! I will be trying your garam chai soon.

INGREDIENTS

Serves 1 person
Total Preparation Time - 7 minutes
  1. Bread - 3 slices
  2. Big onion - 1 (Sliced)
  3. Tomato - 1 (Sliced)
  4. Green chillies - 2 (Chopped finely)
  5. Chopped Ginger - 1/4 spoon
  6. Garlic - 1 (chopped)
  7. Ginger-Garlic paste - 1/4 spoon
  8. Red chilli powder - 1/2 spoon
  9. Tomato sauce - 1 spoon
  10. Red chilli sauce - 1/2 spoon
  11. Sugar - 1/2 spoon
  12. Salt - As per taste
  13. Oil - 2 spoons

PREPARATION METHOD

  • Place a non-stick pan or dosa pan on flame and place the bread slices on it. Toast on low flame until it becomes brownish and crisp. Flip the bread and toast the other side also until brownish and crisp.
  • Then chop into pieces (i used a scissors to do this, as it gives perfect squares) and set aside.
  • Place a wok or kadai on flame, add oil, after it heats up saute chooped garlic, ginger and green chillies on low flame for a minute. Then add sliced onions and saute well until it turns translucent.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell leaves.
  • Now add sliced tomatoes and saute until the tomatoes gets cooked. Add a pinch of salt optionally to fasten cooking.
  • Now add red chilli powder, salt and saute until raw smell leaves.
  • Now add tomato sauce, red chilli sauce and sugar stir well and add the toasted bread cubes into it.
  • Stir gently so that the masala mixes up well with the bread, and at the same time take care not to stir vigorously as it will tear the bread pieces. (The bread pieces will soften up after cooking so do not keep sauteing too much)
  • Cook for a minute on medium flame as you saute. After the bread pieces gets mixed up well with the masala, add chopped coriander leaves stir remove from flame and serve!!

TIP 1: You can also deep fry the bread pieces and use it. It will give a crispier texture. Also take care to chop the bread pieces before frying them.

TIP 2: You can add some diced capsicum for better flavors.

TIP 3: Reduce the spice levels according to your wish. Drizzle some lemon juice if you'd love a tangy flavor.

Scrumptious and Spicy Chilli Bread is now ready!! Serve as snack or even breakfast!!
